The University of Benin, commonly referred to as UNIBEN, is one of the prominent public research universities in Nigeria.
Located in Benin City, Edo State, it was established in 1970 and is among the country’s first-generation federal universities.

Additionally the College of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, located in Effurun, Delta State, was approved by the federal government and offers programs in Petroleum Engineering and Gas Engineering.

UNIBEN has achieved several notable milestones.
It became the first university in Nigeria to have a female Vice-Chancellor, Grace Alele-Williams, who served from 1985 to 1991. The university boasts a student population of over 40,000, comprising both full-time and part-time students.
